Dame Vivienne Westwood is an English fashion designer credited with bringing punk and new wave looks into mainstream fashion. During the UK punk scene of the 1970s, Westwood designed and made clothing for Malcolm McLaren’s boutique in Chelsea, west London. At the time, McLaren was also the manager of the English punk rock band The Sex Pistols.
Westwood has influenced many British fashion designers and has designed clothing for British royalty. She is also known as an outspoken activist for human rights and climate change issues.
Westwood’s Anglomania collection, features asymmetric cuts, bold color and prints, draping, and homage to London’s punk era. “My clothes have an identity,” she says, “They have a character and a purpose. That’s why they become classics. Because they keep on telling a story. They are still telling it.”
